Carnival Cancelled for 2020

It is with regret that we have decided to cancel Water Orton Carnival for 2020.

This will probably come as no surprise with the current situation with the Coronavirus (COVID 19).

Usually at this stage plans are well underway for the Carnival in June, with many stalls booked, attractions agreed, applications made to the council for road closures etc, but there is so much uncertainty at the moment that we feel that this is impossible.

Arranging for a later date is also impracticable as no new date can be set at the moment and attractions such as the fair and arena events are booked up throughout the year, so we have made the decision that the Carnival will not take place in 2020.

This is particularly sad as the outgoing members had committed to stay for this year’s event and we have fortunately recruited quite a few new people to ensure that the carnival continues into 2021 and beyond.

We look forward to brighter, happier days and in the meantime we hope you all stay well, stay safe and if possible, stay indoors.

The Carnival Committee.

Santa Sleigh Run 2019

2019’s official Water Orton Carnival Sleigh Run takes place on Sunday 15th December.

Santa and his helpers will be assembling at Mytton Road ready to start their tour around the village from 12 noon and with so many excited children to see and generous donations from the village residents to receive, Santa probably won’t be finished until quite late. You can see the route Santa takes here.

If you fancy joining us for what is always a fun day full of festive cheer, why not get in touch?

It will certainly get you in the Christmas spirit (quite literally, as Santa likes to spread his cheer in the village hostelries too) and we always appreciate some extra helpers along the route, for however much time you can give. If you can help,  please call Mandi on 07803 789706img_2475

If you see us on our way around, don’t forget to give us a wave – we look forward to seeing you when we’re out and about!

Santa Sleigh Run Route

We been asked what route Santa takes through the village on this Sunday’s Sleigh Run (15th December) by a few people, so here goes:

The Sleigh Run starts at 12 noon at Mytton Road, moving on to Smiths Way, Birmingham Rd, Plank Lane, Orton Close, over the railway bridge to Marsh Lane, to include Digby Crescent and Wakefield Grove, Old Church Lane, Manor House Lane, Minworth Road and Mercer Avenue, calling into The Dog for vital refreshments somewhere along the way.

Then back over the bridge to St Paul’s Court, past the shops, Coleshill Rd to The Digby, Mickle Meadow, Coterills Mews, New Road (to include Hargrave Close, The Sidings, Salisbury Drive and Overton Drive).

From there on to Coleshill Road, Watton Lane (to include Turnpike Drive, Park Grove, Hollyhurst), Maud Road, Edward Road, George Rod, Maud Road, Coleshill Road (to include Openfield Croft, St Peter’s Close, Vesey Close, Welland Close), Plank Lane, Christopher Way.

Vicarage Lane (to include Attleboro Lane, Vicarage Lane, Jaques Close, Woodlands Ave) finally finishing in St Blaise Ave.

As you can see, the Sleigh Run takes quite a while and the more helpers that Santa has, the sooner he can get to the North Pole to prepare for the big day. If you can give spare any time to help on Sunday it would be greatly appreciated. Call Mandi on 07803 789706 to arrange.
