It is with regret that we have again had to cancel Water Orton Carnival for 2021.

Our usual date for the Carnival is the third Saturday in June which falls on the 19th this year, two days before Boris (hopefully) lifts restrictions on outdoor events on 21st.

However, we had discussed and were planning a ‘Family Fun Day’ later in July as an alternative, but having looked into it we are unable to get insurance cover for this event, so regrettably we can’t go ahead with this either.

With no form of public liability insurance in place and much uncertainty about what restrictions might still be in place, we had a Zoom meeting earlier this week and all agreed that we didn’t want to jeopardise any future carnivals should any problems arise during these difficult and still uncertain times.

On a positive note, you will have seen that our Scarecrow Competition is going ahead once again. We had a great response to this last year and it certainly helped to brighten up the village, so please take part if you can.

Writing last year’s similar post we could never have predicted that we would still be under lockdown restrictions 12 months later, but there does seem to be a light at the end of the tunnel, so again, we look forward to happier times and future Carnivals and in the meantime, stay well and stay safe.
