Some 52 Water Orton residents and friends enjoyed a great day at West Midlands Golf Club, Barston Lakes at the Carnival Golf Day on Saturday 18th May.
The day started with a hearty breakfast in the club house, with first tee off at 9.30am. The standard of golfing ranged from the good to ‘oh my goodness’ – Andy tells me that some of the shots he saw at the first tee couldn’t have been repeated if they tried, with the tees travelling 10 times further than the ball itself!
The day included individual, pairs and team competitions with the winner of the individual competition (based on Stableford points score) receiving a special new award, the Beryl Sartorius Trophy. This was created in recognition of the contribution that Beryl has made to the village and the Carnival in particular. Congratulations to the winner, Paul Stokes.
There were other competitions in the form of Longest Drive (on the course, not to the event!), Nearest the Pin, and putting.
The day lasted for about 5 hours and was thoroughly enjoyed by all, most of whom then got themselves looking good for the Black Tie Ball on the evening.
Andy Dorgan has asked that I thank Sharon Cunningham, Sam Cinnamon, John Boland (JB), Glenda Hassall and Derek Barnett for their help throughout the day.
There are lots of photos from the day on wots-on.org website that you can view using the link below. If you would like to buy any of them, you can also do that there, either as a high resolution file by email, or as a 7″x5″ print in a black mount.
